Iso- means the same and electronic means relating to electron.
Iso-electronics means elements/atoms (or ions) with the same number of electrons hence the same electron configuration.
Remember
No. Of electrons = Proton number of which proton number is the atomic number.
For example.
O2-, F-, Ne, Na+ and Mg2+ are iso-electronic.
This is because all of them have the same number of electrons.
EXPLANATION
O2- has ten electrons after gaining two electrons which make it negative two charged which is the same to F- which has ten electrons after gaining one electron which make it negative one charged. This is the same to Ne which is zero charged but has ten electrons as it is unreactive. Sodium and magnesium has ten electrons after loosing one and two electrons which make them positive one charged and two charged respectively.
